In the case of deep caries, root canal treatment is often necessary. This procedure is performed entirely under local anesthesia and does not cause any pain during the procedure. It is possible, however, that the tooth may be more sensitive than usual during the first few days after treatment. This slight sensitivity of the tooth is completely normal and will gradually diminish. However, it may happen that the pain increases and persists or that other abnormal symptoms appear. These may indicate various problems and/or complications that need to be addressed quickly. |
The vast majority of root canal treatments are successful on the first try, meaning that the pain felt due to cavities or other conditions disappears within days of the procedure and the good results can last a lifetime. In rare cases, treatment may fail and various problems may occur. The reasons for this are diverse:
