Usually, this type of pain occurs during or after a meal.

Symptoms vary depending on the cause of the pain:

• Blocking food residues in an interdental space: The pain is more or less diffuse;
• A dental infection: Pain is of great intensity at the slightest contact with the teeth;
• Tooth devitalization care (root canal treatment): Teeth are sensitive to contact.

The causes of pressure pain are varied. We note, among other things:

• Blocking food residues in an interdental space. A food particle caught in a space between two teeth can cause inflammation of the gums and underlying bone. A small piece of food trapped in an empty space caused by the loss of a filling can also cause more or less diffuse pain;
• A dental infection. If you experience severe, severe pain in your teeth at the slightest contact with them, it is likely that you have an infection in one of them;
• Tooth devitalization care (root canal treatment). A freshly devitalized tooth can become sensitive. The nerves and vessels of a tooth (called the pulp), once removed, can cause pain for 3 to 5 days in and around the treated tooth. It is also possible that the tooth may move slightly, but the situation is only temporary.

Solutions vary depending on the cause of the pain.

• Blocking food residues in an interdental space: It is recommended to carefully brush the painful area and floss in the problematic space. You can also rinse your mouth with an antiseptic;
• A dental infection: While waiting to see a doctor, it is possible to relieve the pain caused by an infection with acetaminophen or paracetamol. Anti-inflammatory drugs are not recommended. Your dentist may treat the diseased tooth or prescribe an antibiotic if necessary;
• Tooth devitalization care (root canal treatment): Pain that occurs after root canal treatment can be relieved by taking an analgesic medication. If the pain becomes difficult to bear, it is best to consult your dentist again as soon as possible. In the event of sudden swelling, this may be a sign of an infection that must be managed quickly. It should be noted that the tooth will lose its sensitivity to cold, which is completely normal.
